In 2009 Exmouth had a new lifeboat station built. Woodleys Joinery of Newton Poppleford were asked to manufacture all the windows and doors, including the doors to the lifeboat storage. Woodleys needed to design the windows, doors and external cladding to, look good, last a long time and to withstand the battering they were going to get from the elements.

Brian and Dave Woodley had several meetings to discuss the requirements with the Guys from the RNLI and having gained their confidence with their expertise and understanding of working with wood, they were given the contract.

Iroko, and African hardwood, was the material of choice. It is incredibly hard, weather durable and very stable. The last thing they wanted was to have splitting and distortion in the exterior cladding.
